Shakib wants to break his own barrier: Coach Salahuddin
Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was criticized right away for staying with his IPL franchise team Sunrisers Hyderabad and not joining in the national team preparation camp prior to the World Cup.
But Shakib was keen to the business, fetched his childhood mentor BKSP coach Salahuddin to get well prepared while staying with SRH.
The 32-year old all-rounder has been running with blazing form since the beginning of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and is now standing at the top of the list of highest scorers in the tournament.
In an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz, coach Salahuddin reckoned that Shakib Al Hasan is better prepared physically and technically in this edition of the mega event than the previous ones.
“Look at his achievement at this stage of his career, he does not want to prove anything to anyone. It is more like he wants to cross his own barrier. It is something like coming out of the comfort zone to break the barrier where he is stuck for a while as a cricketer. I think it motivated him the most to go one step further from where he is at the moment,” Salahuddin said.
Salahuddin revealed the particulars of training in the pre World Cup stage saying, “We tried to emphasize particularly on playing shots off his pads. We tried to see whether he can play in three zones like square leg, mid-wicket and fine leg. We also tried to see whether he can hit a six after rocking onto the back foot, and by playing the pull shot against spinners.”
The coach also pointed out how hard Shakib Al Hasan maintained his physical training to lose weight in order to possess better fitness.
“He was working with a trainer regularly in the morning and evening and he was extremely good and was monitoring his development regularly. He was very conscious about his food and did not eat a bit more than what was planned for him,” he said.
