I only watch Imrul’s batting: Shakib

Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is not playing in the ongoing season of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) due to his one-year ban from cricket. But is he following the cricketing actions of the exciting T20 extravaganza? In response, Shakib was full of praise for his national teammate Imrul Kayes.

“I only watch Imrul’s batting. Only watching his innings, and really enjoying a lot. His batting has been superb, every innings quite outstanding,” said Shakib on Sunday (January 12).

Indeed, Imrul Kayes has been one of the best performers of the BPL so far. The Chattogram Challengers opener is currently the fifth highest run-scorer at the end of the round robin league. He scored 405 runs in 11 innings at an average of 57.85. The left-hand batsman has four half centuries to his credit, with his strike rate being 132.78.

Shakib is expecting Imrul to end up being the eventual highest run-getter of the season. “I am praying so that Imrul can become the top scorer. He has another match on Monday (January 13). I hope they win this one, and do well in the next ones as well.”

Chattogram Challengers will face Dhaka Platoon in the Eliminator on Monday afternoon, while the Monday evening fixtures sees Qualifier 1 between Khulna Tigers and Rajshahi Royals.

As per the tournament schedule, winner of Qualifier 1 will directly qualify for the Final of the tournament, while the loser of the Eliminator will be eliminated. Winner of the Eliminator and the loser of the Qualifier 1 will square off in the Qualifier 2 in a bid to win the ticket of the Final.
