Shakib will be back to form, believes Khulna coach
Shakib Al Hasan has not been in the best version of himself as a batter since his return. Gemcon Khulna are expecting the world No.2 T20I all-rounder to return to form real soon.
Shakib made scores of 15 and 12 in the two matches he played so far in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020. In both matches, he could not cross the boundary ropes while handling the short stuff. The pull shot had brought him great results in the 2019 World Cup. However, the rustiness has seemed to be getting the better of him after a year gap from cricket.
But Khulna head coach Mizanur Rahman Babul believes his main man will put on a good show in the upcoming games.
“Shakib Al Hasan is one of the best cricketers of the country. His performance may not be satisfactory but Shakib will definitely be back to his rhythm,” Mizanur told the reporters on Friday.
“Just two matches have gone. He was out of the game for a long period. I don’t think he will take much time. Hopefully, we will see Shakib in form from the next match.”
Shakib’s Khulna won their first match against Fortune Barishal, courtesy of four sixes in the last over from the bat of sensational Ariful Haque. Khulna top-order batsmen and bowlers disappointed against Minister Group Rajshahi, who won by 6 wickets in match 3 of the tournament.
“It’s not only Shakib and (Mahmudullah) Riyad (who are experienced). Imrul Kayes also has a lot of ODIs and T20Is against his name. Bijoy is very experienced. If you go down, Arif(ul Haque) is very experienced. He may not have played much T20Is but he was in the national side. Shamim (Hossain) Patwary played the U-19 World Cup. He is showing his skills,” the Khulna coach added.
“The bowling side is the most experienced but they have failed to show the skills. I hope everyone will display their skills in the next match.”
