Shakib’s Barbados qualify to the final
Shakib Al Hasan had an off day in the office, but his side managed to qualify to the final after beating Trinbago Knight Riders in Qualifier – 2.
After Barbados were sent to bat first, they posted a fighting total of 160 runs, losing 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Johnson Charles was the highest scorer for the side as he scored 35 while Reifer played an unbeaten cameo of 24*. With 1 four and 1 six, Shakib managed to score only 18 runs from 12 balls before departing in the 9th over.
Jean-Paul Duminy struck 10 off 5 before retiring hurt and Barbados kept struggling. In the end, Ashley Nurse’s brutal came of 24 off just 9 balls and Reifer’s 24* off 18 took the side to 160.
In reply, Shakib had a bad start to his bowling as well. He conceded 16 runs in his very first over and did not return to the attack until the 13th over.
The all-rounder came back in attack to bowl his second over which was eventually his last for the game. He gave away 27 runs in his 2 overs and failed to pick up any wicket.
However, Nurse was in form with the ball just like his batting. He conceded only 14 runs and picked up two vital wickets. Trinbago needed 14 off the last over and Reifer bagged Prasanna with a yorker with his first ball of the final over. There was no more drama as Reifer cleaned up the tail with the wicket of Khary Pierre to take Tridents to the final.
Barbados Tridents will face Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final on Saturday.
