I decided to be patient: Shakib
A lenient Shakib Al Hasan resurrected Bangladesh from any feasible downfall in the first innings against Sri Lanka in the ongoing memorable 100th Test match for Bangladesh. Some irrational batting during the closing overs of the second day put the visitors in a threat of being eclipsed even by the poor first innings total of Sri Lanka.
When Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar both lost their wickets after being set in the crease, Shakib Al Hasan, the backbone of Bangladesh batting line up also being watched playing with a flurry to score 18 runs in 8 balls. But the master all-rounder quite altered his batting attitude from the beginning of the third day and thus finished a phenomenal ton to guide Bangladesh into a comprehensive first innings lead of 129 runs.
In the post day briefing Shakib Al Hasan told, “Literally I thought hard in the other day and decided to play with patience. Although it was not easy at all but I think that was the right approach. I am lucky that everything went well and I could set myself mentally.”
“That century was a much needed one both for me and my team. The wicket is a bit sloppy where runs could be scored sticking in the crease” – Shakib added. The prolific all – rounder scored 116 runs facing 159 deliveries. His fifty came in 69 ball while hundredth run came playing 143 deliveries.
