Left-arm spinner Saleh Ahmed Shawon starred in Bangladesh U-19’s brilliant victory over Afghanistan U-19. The Junior Tiger set up the win for his team with returning incredible figures of 6 for 10 off 7.4 overs. It was a tri-series fixture match which was held at the Jadavpur University grounds in Kolkata on Sunday. India U-19 is the other team of the series.

Earlier after opting to bat first, Afghanistan were bundled out for 85 in 30.4 overs. Opener Hazratullah topscored with 32.  Ihsanullah scored 14. Apart from these two, the rest of the batsmen couldn’t get into double figures as Shawon improved his previous Under-19 best of 5 for 25 against South Africa in Chittagong earlier this year.

Bangladesh’s chase didn’t come easily either as they lost as many as 6 wickets on their way to chasing the tiny target. Mohammed Saif Hassan was the topscorer with 34. He, along with Najmul Hossain Shanto, added 43 runs for the second wicket partnership to wipe out a major portion of the target before Bangladesh lost four quick wickets for just 15 runs.

The second round of the league phase is slated to begin on Tuesday, with Bangladesh locking horns with India at the same venue.
