Shehzad requests Bangladesh team to tour Pakistan
Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour Pakistan for three-match T20I and two-match Test series in the latter part of the ongoing month. But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has still not confirmed the tour schedule because of security issues.
It is likely that Bangladesh will not play the Test series in Pakistan as the cricket board is determined to play the series in a neutral venue rather than playing in Pakistan. Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has no objection in playing the T20 series in Pakistan, they are yet to receive a green signal from the Bangladesh government.
Meanwhile, Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad who is currently in Bangladesh to participate in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL), appeals Bangladesh cricketers not to decline the tour. “Pakistan is a safe country for me. It has always been a safe country to me, in the past as well as in the present time. Our government forces are doing whatever is necessary to organize international cricket,” he said.
Shehzad assured the players of safety saying they will be provided the highest security in Pakistan which is usually given the President. He added, “Players are being given security equivalent to the President. Everyone knows how hospitable Pakistan can be. A few days ago, Sri Lanka toured Pakistan and it was a successful tour.”
As he knows the final decision will be taken by the Bangladesh govt. and the country’s cricket board, he said if he were in Bangladesh’s shoes he would tour Pakistan. “The Bangladesh Cricket Board will decide what they will do. But if you ask me – I would like to go to Pakistan, I would like to taste the wonderful wickets, hospitality, and food of Pakistan. I think Pakistan is a good place to play cricket,” he signed off.
