Shikhar Dhawan confident of earning his Test spot through Ranji performances
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has come under fire recently for his below-par performances in the ongoing Windies ODI series.
He has managed to score only 106 runs in the opening four matches at an average of 26.50. The Board of Control for Cricket in India that has announced squad for the Australia Test series, dropped belligerent opener Shikhar Dhawan out of the squad.
India’s governing body announced an 18-member squad for the next Test series where Murali Vijay and Rohit Sharma makes a comeback but Dhawan wasn’t picked for his dismal outing in England.
Dhawan knows that he wasn’t up to the mark in the recently concluded England series where he averaged only 19 from the 8 innings. He also missed the second Test. His poor performance forced him out of the West Indies series and also for the four-match contest against Australia.
Whatever has happened has happened and Shikhar Dhawan will look to make a comeback through Ranji performance, which starts from Thursday onwards. However, he expressed his disappointment in missing the Australia Test series.
“I am disappointed to miss the Australia Test series, but it’s fine. I will be going to play the T20 and ODI series. I will try to play well in domestic cricket and try to earn back my Test spot,” said optimistic Dhawan.
The first game belonged to India and the second one ended in a nerve-racking tie whereas the third match belonged to Windies. However, the Indians relieved some pressure by winning the last ODI by a huge margin as they registered their biggest 224-run win at home with Rohit Sharma scoring 7th 150 and Rayudu’s third century, his first since 2015.
India’s top order looks sumptuous as of now. Their bowling is what needs to be sorted out at the moment. As far as the batting is concerned, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu are in sensational form at the moment and Shikhar Dhawan is slowly gaining some tempo.
He hasn’t had much of a time on the pitch and he will be looking forward to putting on a good show with the bat in the fifth and the final ODI which is scheduled to be played on Thursday at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
