Shoaib Malik to return home for ‘personal reasons’ before WC

Senior Pakistani middle order batsman Shoaib Malik will return home from England to resolve ‘personal issues’, stated the Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday.

The country’s cricket authorities also said that the leave will not be more than 10 days.

“The Pakistan cricket team management has given leave to Shoaib Malik so that he can return home to deal with a domestic issue. He is expected to rejoin the team in 10 days’ time,” the PCB statement said.

The board, however, will not disclose any further details and fully expects all concerned to respect Shoaib’s privacy.

Malik, a part of Pakistan’s World 2019 squad travelled to England to participate in the upcoming limited over series’ against the hosts and the absence means he will not be able to participate in the one-off T20I match against England scheduled to be played on May 5 and the first of the five ODIs on May 8.

The 37-year old veteran already confirmed that the 2019 World Cup will be his last.
