Fast bowlers Shohidul Islam and Khaled Ahmed have been included in Bangladesh's Test squad ahead of the first Test against Pakistan in Chattogram.
Bangladesh already have Ebadot Hossain, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi and uncapped Rejaur Rahman Raja as pacers in the squad. But Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam are unavailable for the Test opener with injuries.
"We have a few injury concerns with the pacers," chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said. "Taskin (Ahmed) and Shoriful (Islam) are not available for this Test and we needed cover for the other seamers. Khaled and Shohidul are both fit and ready."
Among Bangladesh's other injury blows, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has failed to recover from a hamstring injury that he sustained in the T20 World Cup. Tamim Iqbal is also missing and his participation in the New Zealand tour in the new year is doubtful.
Shohidul made his T20I debut in the series finale against Pakistan in Dhaka where he picked up one wicket in Bangladesh's last-ball defeat.
Khaled has not played a Test since 2019 as the right-arm bowler is yet to earn a Test scalp after playing two games.
In the recently concluded NCL (National Cricket League), which the Dhaka Division won, Shohidul claimed 17 wickets in four matches including a 7-fer (7/48 vs Rajshahi Division for Dhaka Metro). Khaled took seven wickets in three matches cor Sylhet Division.
