The two-match Test series between host Bangladesh and visitors Sri Lanka will start on May 15 next month. Before the start of the series, there are many injury concerns in the pace bowling unit of Bangladesh. However, there’s some good news before the series as young pacer Shoriful Islam will be available from the first match of the series.
Shoriful could not play in the Test series against South Africa due to injury. Although he was in the team for the first Test, he was not in the XI. He dropped out before the second Test. After that, he came to the country and started rehabilitation activities.
However, the 20-year-old pacer had played in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) recently. But it was heard again that Shoriful may have to leave the country to heal the injury. However, this time it’s revealed that he will be able to play in both the Tests of the Sri Lanka series.
National team chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu told to Cricbuzz that Shoriful is not traveling abroad for any surgery or treatment at the moment. "He (Shoriful) is available for us from the opening Test against Sri Lanka as he will not require any operation at the moment," said BCB's chief selector Minhajul Abedin. "It will be big boost for us considering we are also missing the service of Taskin (Ahmed) at the moment."
Earlier, the squad for the first Test was announced with Shoriful. It was reported that the presence or absence of Shoriful depends on his fitness. Another pacer Taskin Ahmed is already out of the squad due to shoulder injury.
