Under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, Delhi Capitals made it to the IPL final for the first time before losing to Mumbai Indians in the showdown. The right-handed batsman is expected to undergo surgery on April 8.

Despite missing the entire IPL 2021 due to injury, Iyer to get his full salary. Iyer will be eligible for his compensation under the Board of Control for Cricket in India insurance policy.

Delhi Capitals would have to pay a sum of INR 7 crore from their wallet. This particular insurance policy was introduced in the year 2011. The policy states that all the centrally contracted cricketers will be compensated if they skip an IPL season owing to an injury or accident.

Moreover, a player will also be eligible for the scheme if he picked up an injury or accident while on national duty. On the other hand, a player will not be eligible to avail full compensation under this policy if suppose he is not under a central contract with India’s governing body, BCCI.

The 26-year-old batsman had a good season in the 2020 edition where he scored 517 runs in 17 games at an average of 34.60. He smashed three fifties in the last season. Iyer has a pretty decent record in the IPL where he scored 2,200 runs in 79 games including 16 half-centuries.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has been named the captain of Delhi Capitals this time. Delhi Capitals will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in their first game on April 10 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
