SL players to get two-day break for outdoor training on curfew days
Sri Lankan players, who have begun outdoor practice sessions at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground will be given a two-day break on coming Thursday and Friday for the outdoor training.
“We have a curfew on these two days here and it won’t look good if the players go out for practice on these days and we are considering to abandon outdoor training on these two days,”
a source in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), said to this reporter.
“The players will only have indoor training in the hotel on these two days. They will use gym and pool on these days.”
The players under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Mickey Arthur and Grant Flower (batting coach) began outdoor training from Tuesday.
Interestingly, the management has also added Test and ODI captain Dimuth Karunaratne and all-rounder Dasun Shanaka for the training.
“Originally, we had selected six fast bowlers, three spinners and all-rounder (Danushka Gunathilaka) and wicket-keeper Kusal Perera for the training but now we have included captain and opening batsman Dimuth,” the source said.
It could not be confirmed whether Nuwan Pradeep, who skipped the first day training joined on the second day.
“As per the ICC guidelines no player will have batting practice during this first phase training. The captain, however, will take part in gym, running, fielding exercise and swimming activities,” the source further added.
Team physio Ajantha Wattegama and trainer Dilshan Fonseka are overseeing the players.
