SLC confirms Mathews’s exclusion from ODIs


Sri Lankan Cricket Board has announced their squad for the upcoming home ODI and Test series against England on September 26 and the board has axed Angelo Mathews from the ODI squad.

England will tour to Sri Lanka for a lengthy series of three ODIs, one T20I and three Tests. The series will begin with the first ODI game against both teams on 10th October in Rangiri Dambulu International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lankan Cricket Board has comfirmed the exclusion of their former skipper Angelo Mathews who was asked for a fitness Test after being axed as the captain of the team in color clothes. But the right handed batsman will continue to play his role in the longest format of the game.

As the board has announced earlier Dinesh Chandimal will lead the team in all three formats of the game. And it will be a come back for their skipper in both formats of the game.

Dinesh Chandimal had to miss the Test series against South Africa as he was handed over a ban of six International games for the ball tampering issues happened during the second Test against Windies. And also he had missed the Asia Cup due to the injury in his middle finger.

Sadeera Samarawickrama, who made his ODI debut last year against Pakistan, has been included in Mathews’s place. Suranga Lakmal, the experienced pacer, and Kusal Mendis, the right-handed batsman, have also been left out of the set-up. In Lakmal’s place Nuwan Pradeep has earned a recall.
