SLC suspends Madushanka from all forms of cricket
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has banned Shehan Madushanka from all formats of cricket with immediate effect for alleged possession of heroin.
Earlier, Madushanka, who picked-up a hat-trick in his debut in international cricket, was arrested by the Lankan police on drug charges.
Police stopped them while they were driving with another man in the town of Pannala in Sri Lanka during a curfew on Sunday (May 24th). Later, 2.5 grams of heroin was seized from Madushanka. The local magistrate granted him a 14-day remand.
In a statement, the SLC said that Sri Lanka Cricket had decided to ban Shehan Madushanka from all forms of cricket. They had not made this decision since the police remanded him after arresting him with banned drugs.
Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan de Silva said they suspended the 25-year-old pending an inner disciplinary request. He was remanded into custody on Monday.
“We have suspended him with immediate effect and he also cannot take part in any form of the game,” de Silva said.
The talented fast bowler had earlier got a place in the Sri Lankan team in the tri-nation ODI series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in Dhaka in 2018. Where he got the status of hat-trick in his debut against Bangladesh.
