Australian right-handed batsman Steve Smith has just made a come back to the Australian Test team after a facing one year ban due to the ball tampering saga that rocked during Australia’s tour of South Africa in 2018.

The Australian batsman made a perfect come back to the Test cricket after all the issues around him for the past one year. Steve Smith scored 774 runs in just seven innings at an average of more than 100 as he helped Australia retain the Ashes for the first time since 2001 on English soil.

Steve Smith was the captain of Australian team during the ball tampering saga and immediately he was sacked from the captaincy after the incident. Till then, Tim Paine is leading the team in red ball format.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes that Steve Smith will be back as the Australian captain again and that will happen very soon. “Steve Smith – I think he will captain again. I don’t know what the Australian public might think about that,” Ponting said at an event in London.

“So to me that seems like Cricket Australia has left the gate open … so if Cricket Australia thinks it’s OK then I’m happy with. I think he knows his role now. But once that ban is lifted, I don’t think it will be too long until he’s captain again,” Ponting added.
