Soumya eyes on Test cricket

Playing only 16 one day matches, Soumya Sarkar has scored his first one day international hundred along with four half centuries. But his Test career is yet to proliferate with just 107 runs beside his name playing 5 innings of 3 matches.

The hard hitter willow merchant seemed quite nervous during his batting in Test cricket. Perhaps the slowness of the longer version of cricket does not suit his type of batting but Soumya said that he just wants to keep up his own style in Test cricket also.

While talking in front of the media yesterday at Sher – E – Bangla National Stadium, the youngster admitted the huge difference between these two versions of cricket, “Test cricket has different demands. I have to work on it but I want to maintain my own style of batting.”

Soumya filled up the long unoccupied place beside Tamim Iqbal in the opening lot of one day cricket for Bangladesh. Now does it hamper his batting when he was asked to hold the innings in the late middle order in Test matches?

Soumya denied the matter saying, “My goal is to perform well wherever I am placed by the team management. There are opportunities to take the responsibility in any position because situation varies in every place.”

Soumya Sarkar manifested his eagerness to play against Australia in the upcoming home series where Bangladesh will participate in Two Test matches with the world champion.

“We always long to play against Australia. The match in the World Cup against them was unfortunately washed away by rain; now we have found another opportunity. We could test the mercury of our improvement against the world champions” – a hopeful Soumya stated.
