South Africa 428/3 at stumps

The hosts Proteas have finished with 428 runs on day one of second Test against Bangladesh at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. The Tigers had only three successes in the day.

South Africa were one wicket down in the afternoon session with Dean Elgar’s dismissal. Bangladesh picked two more after tea. Rubel Hossain bowled Aiden Markram with a full-length delivery. Markram scored 143 runs off 186 deliveries with 22 fours in his maiden Test ton.

Another wicket fell soon when Temba Bavuma nicked Subashis Roy for 7. South Africa slipped from 243/0 to 288/3. Bangladesh could’ve got another wicket if Subashis didn’t miss Faf du Plessis’ catch at fine-leg off Mustafizur Rahman.

Hashim Amla and du Plessis made the Bangladesh bowlers toil again. Amla reached his 36th Test fifty in 61 balls while the Proteas skipper’s half-century came in 68 deliveries. South Africa crossed 400 in 83.1 overs.

Bangladesh bowlers gave 172 runs in 34 overs in the final session. The hosts finished day one with 428 runs for three wickets at 4.76 runs per over.

The Amla-du Plessis fourth-wicket partnership is on 140 runs. Amla is just 11 runs away from his 28th Test ton as he remained unbeaten on 99-ball 89 runs hitting 12 boundaries. du Plessis is on 62* off 92 with six fours.
