South Africa clinches series win
After humiliating defeat in the test series, South Africa ensures the series win in the third ODI against Sri Lanka. South Africa are now on a full tour to Sri Lanka. After the test series defeat they took the upper hand in the ODI series by winning first two games comfortably. The third game was been a must win game for the hosts side to be alive in the series.
The third ODI happened to be the day game in Pallekale International Stadium, Kandy. Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock opened the innings for South Africa. Hashim Amla managed to add a half century as his contribution with 59 runs. The debutant Reeza Hendricks who came at no.3 scored a match winning century of 102 runs for the visitors and he became the third South African player to score a century on ODI debut.
At the end JP Duminy and David Miller added some quick runs to the team total with 92 of 70 and 51 of 47 respectively. At the end South Africa scored 363 runs on the board and set a target of 364 for the hosts. In Lankan bowling department Thisara Perera took four wickets and Lakiru Kumara and Akila Dhananjaya took 2 wickets and 1 wicket respectively.
The host team started the chase with their openers Upul Tharanga and Niroshan Dickwella. But all the top order batsmen failed to contribute to the team much in this high scoring run chase. The lower order batsman Dhananjaya de Silva scored a fighting 84 runs from 66 balls with some support from the skipper Angelo Mathews and the spinner Akila Dhananjaya,
At the end Sri Lankans were bowled out for 285 runs in 45.2 overs. In the African bowling side Lungi Ngidi led the bowling attack with four wickets and Andile Phehlukwayo took three wickets. The chinaman spinner Shamsi took 2 wickets and Williem Murder took one wicket. The debutant Reeza Hendricks was awarded as the man of the match for his century in debut match. With this win the visitors take a lead of 3-0 with two matches to go.
