South Africa level series after Dussen-Phehlukwayo’s stunning fightback

The second ODI between South Africa and Pakistan saw huge ups and downs during both the innings with the hosts having the last laugh in Durban.

After winning the toss, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis opted to bowl first. Pakistan lost Imam-ul Haq early for 5 while Fakhar Zaman departed for 26 after looking well-set.

The visitors kept losing wickets and they found themselves in all sorts of trouble with 8 wickets down for only 112 runs. But who knew that a twist in the tale on the way and tail-ender Hasan Ali stunned everyone with his second ODI fifty along with the assistance of skipper Sarfraz Ahmed, who scored 41. Pakistan reached to a fighting total of 203 runs in the end.

In reply, what looked like an easy chase turned into a tricky one for the hosts. Pakistan seamers were on fire particularly Shaheen Afridi, who removed both the openers. He also picked up the wicket of South African and skipper and with Shadab Khan’s two wickets, South Africa found themselves in risk of breaking out with 80-5.

But the match saw yet another twist in the tale as Rassie Van der Dussen (80*) and Phehlukwayo (69*) built a stunning 127 runs partnership to take South Africa to a comfortable victory in the end.

The contender for the man of the match award was loud and clear after a brilliant all-rounder display from Phehlukwayo, who picked up 4 wickets for only 22 runs and scored an unbeaten match-winning knock of 69.
