Sri Lanka cricketer Madushanka detained for possessing drugs
In a shocking development, Sri Lankan police detained international cricket player Shehan Madushanka for possessing heroin, the officials confirmed in a statement on Monday. The 25-year-old Shehan Madushanka hogged the limelight when he claimed a hat-trick of wickets on his international debut in the year 2018.
He was detained by the cops for possessing drugs and was remanded in custody for two weeks by a magistrate. Madushanka was said to be carrying just over two grams of heroin when he was caught in the town of Pannala on Sunday, a police official added in a statement.
It was learnt that the Sri Lanka cricketer was stopped while driving with another person in a car during the nationwide coronavirus lockdown, the police said.
The right-arm pacer took a hat-trick against Bangladesh on his ODI debut in January 2018.
He played two T20 games against Bangladesh in 2018, but hasn’t played a single international game since due to a string of injuries.
It is to be noted that Sri Lanka is due to relax its regulation from Tuesday, but police have by far arrested around 65,000 people for violating the restrictions imposed on March 20.
