Sri Lanka rope in Chaminda Vaas as specialist bowling coach
Former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas has been appointed into the country’s National side to guide the pace attack for the India tour of Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) on Friday have confirmed the appointment of the ace paceman throw a media release. He joins the team as specialist fast bowling coach ahead of the India tour.
The 43-year old Vaas has been at the helm of the National programme working with the feeder squads since August last year and joins the National team as Specialist Fast Bowling Coach ahead of the India tour.
Vaas who formed the core fibre of Sri Lankan teams in the mid 90s and 2000s along with Muttiah Muralitharan, played 111 Tests in his career picking up 355 wickets and 322 one-day internationals accounting for 400 wickets.
Earlier, the former new ball seamer also had a stint with the senior side from May 2013 to April 2015 before taking up short coaching roles with Ireland and New Zealand.
To be noted, the upcoming India’s tour of Sri Lanka will feature three-match Test series, five- match ODI series and a lone T20 match, beginning July 26 at the Galle.
