Sri Lanka’s extended squad to have fitness tests today

Sri Lanka’s probable squad of 23-players picked for the training ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh will undergo several fitness tests on Wednesday.

According to the highly placed sources close to the team management, the tests will be overseen by the trainer Dilshan Fonseca.

All fit players are scheduled to start training from Thursday.

It is still not clear whether the fielding coach Shane McDermott, who has completed his 14-day quarantine period in Kandy and arrived in Colombo on Saturday, would be able to join the squad.

“He has been asked to be self-isolated for another 14 days. The authorities are seeking government advice whether this another 14-day quarantine for him can be waived,”

the source, speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, said.

“The players will love to see our fielding coach in a beard now. He grew his beard during his recent long-stay in Australia. His partner likes it and so he is happy to keep it,” the source, close to the fielding coach, added and also sent exclusively his photo from the hotel.
