Star CSK pacer ruled out of IPL 2019
The roaring Chennai Super Kings have been dealt a massive blow ahead of the new season in the wake of their star pacer Lungi Ngidi’s injury because of which he has been ruled out of the entire Indian Premier League season. His on-field exploits with the ball bolstered team’s bowling unit last season but now his absence cost the team dearly.
The South African pacer was expected to be an instrumental part of team’s bowling set up but unfortunately, he suffered a side strain during the 5th ODI against Sri Lanka at home very recently. Therefore, the CSK fans will not be able to see the Lungi’s dance. In addition to that, Ngidi was not picked even for the T20I opener against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, which obviously confirms that his injury is more serious that he had no option but to rule himself out of the IPL this time around.
Ngidi needs 4 weeks of rest
Ngidi’s requires at least four weeks of complete rest after which there is rehabilitation for him to ensure that he is physically fit as a fiddle to get a ticket for the upcoming World Cup which is to be held in England and Wales.
“Lungi felt discomfort while bowling during the last ODI against Sri Lanka at Newlands and immediately stopped bowling,” South Africa team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee added in a statement. “Further scans revealed a Grade II muscle strain which will need up to four weeks of rest followed by a rehab programme leading up to the World Cup.”
Ngidi was roped in by the belligerent Super Kings in the mega-auction ahead of last season. Much to everyone’s expectations, he was instrumental in their team’s title glory. He played seven games in which he picked up 11 wickets to his standards. So now with Lungi ruled out, English bowling allrounder David Willey is the backup seamer CSK have at the moment whereas the Indian pacers include the likes of Shardul Thakur, Mohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar and KM Asif.
