Steyn to miss Bangladesh game, Amla doubtful
Injuries have raised concerns to South Africa as Dale Steyn is yet to be available to play with Hashim Amla in scrutiny for Sunday’s World Cup clash with Bangladesh at The Oval.
Veteran fast bowler Steyn sustained shoulder injury during the Indian Premier League while he was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has been in-and-out of the team due to several injuries over the past few years.
South Africa yet decided to keep Steyn in the World Cup squad. He didn’t take part in either of warm-ups against West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Despite Steyn not being there, Proteas’ bowlers yet found their feet against a power-packed English side in the opening World Cup game where they restricted England to 311.
After a 104-run defeat in the first match, South Africa are in search of their first victory against an experienced Bangladeshi side. Unfortunately for Proteas fans, Steyn has not yet received a green signal as South African management is looking to keep him fresh for their third match against India that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, opening batsman Amla is doubtful for Bangladesh match after he received a hit on the head off a Jofra Archer bouncer on Thursday. South Africa batsmen also have questions to answer since they managed only 207 runs against England.
On the otherhand, Bangladesh are also dealing with injuries. Their captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will play with hamstring strain while, Tamim’s wrist injury is a worry to Bangladeshi management. Tamim will make a final call before the start of the match.
