Stoinis gets Test call-up in place of injured Marsh
Allrounder Marcus Stoinis has been called up in the Australian side for the last two Tests against India. Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the series with shoulder injury.
Mitchell Marsh carried his shoulder injury during the 2016-17 summer. He had a pace of 140 kph in 2016. But it came down alarmingly in 2017. He has been bowling at 120s. He did not score much with the bat. That’s why he has been axed from the squad.
“Mitch Marsh will go back to Melbourne with his shoulder. We’ll decide in the next day or so the replacement there, and then work out what our best XI is from there,” Australian head coach Daren Lehmann said.
“He had the injury through the summer, he was fine when he got here but it just got worse. I was really happy with the way he played the second innings in Pune. It’s unlucky for Mitch and we move to whoever the next person comes in. Whether we go with Usman Khawaja or Glenn Maxwell or whoever is selected, we’ll wait and see.”
Marcus Stoinis will arrive India after the end of Victoria’s ongoing Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia which began on Wednesday. He could not make much runs in the Shield.
Stoinis came into the limelight when he scored an unbeaten 146 against New Zealand after taking three wickets in the recent Chappell-Hadlee series opener. He also has the experience of playing in India. He played for Kings XI Punjab last year in VIVO IPL.
