Zimbabwe Cricket has sacked Heath Streak from the head coach’s role after a poor campaign in the 2018 ICC World Cup qualifier and the decision from the Board left Streak in a shock.
ZC in an email forwarded to Streak gave an ultimatum to resign. It further remarked he would not be deemed as a coach owing to the formal resignation procedure. However, Streak earlier admitted that he will not resign on his own.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s dream of making into the next World Cup ended with a shocking defeat to the United Arab Emirates. As a result, ZC is making an array of changes to reshape their cricket. In the wake of their failure in the ICC World Cup Qualifier, they have sacked Graeme Cremer from the captaincy role as well.
Streak further thanked Cremer and all the players for their commitment towards the national team. He said: “To Graeme and all the players, thank you for your patriotism and commitment to our Chevrons team. I wish you all the very best for the future. I am deeply saddened that my journey with you ends here. Hopefully, our paths will meet again in future”
However, this brings a lot of question as whom ZC will bring to replace the vacant roles. The prospect of luring a foreign coach of good standing will also be more challenging after Zimbabwe failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
