Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the team director of the national team, is in favor of relieving Mominul Haque of the leadership role due to the pressure of form created by the captaincy. However, he thinks that the decision or consideration should come from Mominul's side.
Mominul has been in such poor form that he’s unable to reach double-digit runs in the last 9 innings. He has been out 3 times with zero runs. He is the captain of the Test team and has to take care of everything. This is putting pressure on Mominul and that pressure is affecting the batting - the thought of many.
Talking to the media about this, Sujon said,
"If the performance is poor, it seems normal, it seems that the captaincy has been a liability. He is the owner of most of our Test centuries. His average was above 50. Why he’s not performing suddenly - the question remains. Only Mominul can give the best answer to this.”
But if the reason for the off-form is the pressure of leadership, Sujon said that Mominul should give the captaincy role to someone else. “The big question is whether the captaincy has an effect. If there is, we don't want it (captaincy). We want his batting, that's important. Let him score a century taking enough time, we want it.”
Mominul seems okay in the practice session, Sujon believes. So the current team director is not losing confidence in him. “Looking at him from outside, it seems for some time - yes, Mominul is in under pressure. That pressure may be hurting the batting a bit. But he is a class player. Hopefully, he will come back. He just has to rely on the basics. Everything is going well in practice, doing well. That's what stress is all about. But he’s not being delivered in the match. Maybe there is pressure in batting," he added.
