Sunrisers confirm their place in the play-offs

Defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sunrisers Hyderabad has confirmed their place in the play-offs of the ongoing season of the tournament, on Saturday with an easy eight-wicket victory over Gujarat Lions.

Having been asked to bat first at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, a blistering 111-run opening stand between Dwayne Smith and Ishan Kishan gave Gujarat Lions a perfect start. Sunriser’s own Ishan Kishan scored 61 off 40 balls, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes while their West Indian recruit Dwayne Smith smashed 54 off just 33 deliveries with seven fours and two huge sixes.

But afterwards the Sunrisers bowler came back to the match so strongly that Gujarat Lions had to lose five wickets within 12 runs.
Right-arm fast-medium bowler Mohammed Siraj led the bowling side with four important wickets. Apart from him Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar took three and two wickets respectively.

Chasing 155, 133-run third wicket stand between Warner and Tamil Nadu one-day captain Shankar guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to an easy eight-wicket victory. In the partnership, Sunrisers skipper David Warner scored 69 off 52 balls while Vijay Shankar contributed with an even quicker innings of 63 runs off 44 balls.

For Gujarat Lions, experienced fast bowler Praveen Kumar was the only bowler who got success with ball. He picked up the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques.

However, with this win Sunrisers Hyderabad finished their league campaign with 17 points from 14 games.
