Super Stars won a super match
Sylhet Super Stars have gained their biggest win of this season’s BPL; in the 21st match of BRB Cables BPL T20 tournament of 2015, they have just defeated topper Barisal Bulls by 9 wickets at the Shere Bangla National stadium in Dhaka.
The encounter between Sylhet Super Stars and Barisal Bulls was supposed to be a thrilling one; Barisal Bulls who is standing in the second position of the point table were beaming in increased confidence to snatch the number one position from Comilla Victorians once again after Caribbean super star Chris Gayle has joined for his first appearance in the third edition of BPL.
But everything went astray for the Bulls, they lost their momentum from the very beginning of the match.
Sylhet Super Stars in charge captain Shahid Khan Afridi had won the toss early in the afternoon and decided to field first, the decision proved its worth when they were able to bundle out Barisal Bulls for an unexpected total of 58 runs.
Igniting the atmosphere prior to the match with his prediction of delivering a hundred, Chris Gayle opened the innings of the Bulls with Evin Lewis. The single six in his 8 run innings in 8 balls was the only showpiece to decor the poor innings of Barisal Bulls.
Evin Lewis, the only batsman to score a century so far in this season’s BPL started the faltering today for Barisal Bulls. He was the first to go, caught by Abdur Razzak off the bowling of Pakistan national team star bowler Sohail Tanvir after scoring 12 runs in 15 balls with two fours.
However Lewis was the second highest scorer for Barisal Bulls, the first one goes to tale end batsman Mohammad Sami; Sami collected 16 runs of 23 balls before fallen in the hands of Rubel Hossain facing a delivery from Mohammad Shahid.
No other batsman of Barsial Bulls except Lewis and Sami could cross the two figure mark before they were packed within 16 over of the match.
All rounder Shahid Afridi practically led his troop from the front; at the end of the Barisal Bulls innings, Afridi possessed an astounding bowling figure of giving just 5 runs in his allotted 4 overs with a maiden along with capturing 2 wickets.
Another Pakistani performer of Sylhet Super Stars Shohail Tanvir was also bowled remarkably well; he provided 9 runs in his 3 overs with a maiden and a wicket.
Mohammad Shahid, meanwhile snatched the precious wicket of Chris Gayle and Ravi Bopara picked up 3 wickets from the middle order.
Rubel Hossain took 2 wickets, most importantly that of Mahmudullah Riyad.
Sylhet Super Stars would have been passed the target in the snap of a finger if Dilshan Munaweera did not become the sole victim of Mohammad Sami in the 5th ball of the first over of Super Stars’ innings.
He played five balls and departed before adding a single a run on the board. Junaid Siddique, on the other end ended at unbeaten 34 runs, picked up from facing 37 balls with 6 shots to go for four.
One down batsman Nurul Hasan was not out at 23 runs (26 balls, 4×2).
Barisal Bulls tried six bowling options including Chris Gayle in 11.2 overs innings of the Super Stars.
Junaid Siddiqui was adjudged Man of the Match.
