Suranga Lakmal to replace Lahiru Kumara for West Indies ODIs and T20Is
The right-arm fast bowler Suranga Lakmal is named as the replace for the fast bowler Lahiru Kumara who is tested positive with coronavirus ahead of the Caribbean tour.
Sri Lanka are gearing up for the upcoming tour against West Indies. There Sri Lanka will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests. The tour has turned out to be a more complex one for Sri Lanka Cricket.
The 20-member squad for the limited-overs fixtures against West Indies will leave for Antigua from Colombo tonight. Just a few hours before the departure a COVID-19 positive case is found in the Sri Lankan squad.
Sri Lankan right-arm fast bowler Lahiru Kumara is tested positive for the COVID-19 ahead of the Caribbean tour. After the squad announcement for the tour, PCR tests were carried out on the set of players leaving tonight for Antigua. In the particular test, the fast bowler is tested positive for the virus.
Anyhow, SLC is likely to carry on the tour as planned. “We have one player positive and we are currently identifying his close contacts. We are confident we can tour if all the other players are negative,” a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) source told NewsWire.
As said earlier, right-arm fast bowler Suranga Lakmal is named as the replacement for infected Lahiru Kumara and the team will depart from Colombo as per the plans. The tour will kickstart on February 3rd with the T20I series.
