Sylhet Sixers – team of silent killers

Sylhet Sixers - team of silent killersThe fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is ready to come in the field from fourth November. Very alike to the previous season, seven teams from seven different regions of the country will fight for the title of country’s biggest domestic competition of the shorter format.

You will notice only one big change and definitely it is the return of the team from the Sylhet region after a little gap of one year. Sylhet was in BPL from the beginning of this colorful event as they had participated as the Sylhet Royals in the very first BPL.

Later they played in Bangladesh Premier League as Sylhet Superstars. And once again their franchise went through a change while this time they are coming in the field as Sylhet Sixers.

But one thing is very special for them in this fifth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as they are getting the opportunity of playing in front of their home-crowd for the very first time.

The hype is already at the peak! At least the scarcity of tickets for the matches of the host team obviously shows that. The cricket lovers from Sylhet are not only fighting for the tickets but also the team which is going to represent their region has became the hot topic of discussion.

In a word you may say the BPL fever is already on here in the city of Tea gardens which is also known as the city of culture. Now let’s amputate the Sylhet Sixers squad.

Strength of Sylhet Sixers: Papers may say that Sylhet did not make a great team in comparison to others. But you must have to admit that there are few names who can seriously be considered as the real game changers!

The main strength of that team would be their middle and lower order. Especially the existence of two Bangladeshi all-rounder Sabbir Rahman and Nasir Hossain can be marked as their biggest strength. Besides four foreigners Babar Azam, Barry McCarthy, Dasun Shanaka and Liam Plunkett may put extra flavor in the squad.

And in their day these names are very much capable of ruining the oppositions single handedly! Taijul would be the main trump card of Sylhet’s captain. This regular face of Bangladesh Test team will have to lead the bowling line-up.

Weakness of Sixers: Opening pair can be considered as one of the biggest concerns of this team. It’s time to see how they overcome this challenge with the two youngsters Nurul Hasan Sohan and Andre Fletcher.

Imtiaz Hossain Tanna who is in good form in domestic cricket also can be a good option to do that task. The bowling is also an important matter to sort on. Two young-pacers Kamrul Hasan Rabbi and Abul Hasan Raju will have to come forward along with Plunkett and Krishmar Santokie.

Otherwise the Sixers would find themselves in great trouble!

Player to Watch: Nasir Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Taijul Islam, Imtiaz Hosaain Tanna, Planket. Sylhet Sixers 2017 Squad : Sabbir Rahman, Babar Azam, Chaturanga de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Nabil Samad. Ghulam Mudassar, Mohammad Sharif, Imtiaz Hossain, Sharifullah, Krishmar Santokie, Usman Khan, Barry McCarthy. Andre Fletcher, Davy Jacobs, Liam Plunkett, Ross Whiteley, Wanidu Hasaranga, Taijul Islam, Abul Hasan, Shuvagata Hom, Kamrul Islam Rabbi.

Time will show the result. Although in short we can say underdog Sylhet Sixers is a team with lots of silent killers who can give birth of many upsets, the prediction especially in this shorter format of the game often goes in other side. But obviously the success of Khulna Titans in last edition would supply them the fuel to fight till the end.
