Taijul unaware of his own milestone

Taijul forgot about his own milestone

Bangladeshi left arm spinner Taijul Islam is now the 5th Bangladeshi bowler to reach the 50 wicket milestone in Test matches. He reached this milestone in the 2nd innings of the Dhaka Test. However, the pressure of the match made Taijul unaware of his own achievement. [বাংলায় পড়ুন:রেকর্ডের কথা জানতেনই না তাইজুল!]

The match was in a tense position, with Australia requiring 21 runs to win and Bangladesh needing only 1 wicket to make history. At that tense moment Taijul came into the attack and trapped Australia’s number 11 batsman Josh Hazlewood for a plumb lbw and history was created. The Bangladeshi players were overwhelmed with joy and Australian players were shell shocked at their defeat. Amidst all of this Taijul forgot that the wicket of Hazlewood was his 50th wicket in Test cricket.

“To be honest, at that moment it wasn’t in my mind. We were under pressure on field at that moment and were only thinking about the fate of the match. I was  mainly focusing on winning the match.”

Taijul took 4 wickets in the match, playing an important helping hand to Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Miraz. He played a crucial role in the 2nd innings, picking up the wickets of Handscomb, Ashton Agar and the final one of Hazlewood.

Taijul is hoping for a spinning track, similar to the Dhaka Test for the 2nd Test in Chittagong. He also urged his teammates to capitalize the opportunity presented before them and beat the Aussies 2-0 at home.

“I’m hoping for a similar wicket, to the one where they(Australia) lost- as it’ll help us,” Taijul said when asked about what type of wicket will he prefer in the 2nd Test.“But just hoping won’t win us the match, the batsmen and  the bowlers both will have to play well. Last year we beat England. We could’ve beaten them 2-0 too but missed the opportunity by a whisker. Beating Australia 2-0 is nothing impossible.”
