Tamim still finds room for improvement
Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh ODI captain, believes there is more to improve with World Cup Super League in minds.
Bangladesh have kicked off well with two comfortable wins against under-strength West Indies. But Tamim is still wary of the opposition and has hinted at few changes in the third ODI in Chattogram. The goal is to grab another ten points.
“Yes, we have won the series. But there’s another 10 points up for grab. Probably West Indies didn’t have a great time in the first two games. But they are a dangerous side. They can come back any time,” Tamim said a day before the game.
“We might have very few changes. But I’m sure whoever is coming in, they all are match winners. They have done well in the past. I think there’s a lot of hungerness in the dressing room. People want to go there in the field and do well. I hope this continues. It’s an important game tomorrow. We have won the series but as I said, there’s 10 more points up for grab.”
Bangladesh bowlers bundled West Indies out for 122 and 148 respectively in the first two ODIs. Tamim remains the leading scorer with 94 runs – 44 in the first, 50 in the second.
The skipper expects his team to improve in all three departments as he feels it will be the key in the Super League as road to World Cup 2023 continues.
“I’m sure there’s lot of room for improvement. It’s very hardly you can play a complete game. We can improve in all three departments – we can bowl a little better, we can field a little better. The thing is people are getting starts in batting and not finishing the job. These are the areas we have to keep improving.
“Now ODI is such a format with the world championship coming in, you have to keep on improving if you want to qualify. You know that you will be playing away from home as well, which is always difficult. You have to make sure that you tick all the boxes when you’re playing international games,” he added.
Bangladesh are currently placed third with 20 points, behind Australia and England in the Super League table.
