Tamim to miss Afghanistan Test, T20I tri-series

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has reportedly been given a break from cricket by the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) and thus will miss upcoming home series.

Tamim failed to impress with his captaincy

News media ESPNcricinfo confirmed of the news. It was revealed earlier that a few senior cricketers seeked rest following a hectic schedule of cricket over the past three months.

Afghanistan will be facing Bangladesh in a Test match for the first time in Chattogram in September. The Afghans will stay on after the historical match and will be joined by Zimbabwe for a T20I tri-nation series that will be held in Mirpur and Chattogram. Six matches will be played before the Final between the top two teams.

Tamim has been going through a rought patch since the World Cup in England and Wales. He made just one fifty and could not live up to the expectations. He then had a horrendous tour to Sri Lanka where Bangladesh lost 0-3 in ODI series under his captaincy.

The 30-year-old asked for a ‘mental break’ to overcome his difficult time. He will be abroad for a physical fitness camp as he was highly criticized for it on social media.

The break will be as long as before Bangladesh’s India tour begins. The Tigers will play three T20Is and two Tests there. The Test series is a part of ICC World Test Championship 2019-21. Tamim is expected to join the campaign with a rather fresh mood.

This is not the first time a Bangladeshi player has been rested. In 2017, Shakib Al Hasan was out of Tests in South Africa. He again asked a break in Sri Lanka tour which was approved by the board.
