Taskin hopeful of pacers doing well

Right-arm fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is hopeful of Bangladeshi fast bowlers delivering the goods in the two-match Test series against Australia.

There are only three pacers in 14-man Bangladesh squad; Taskin (four Tests), Mustafizur Rahman (four Tests) and Shafiul Islam (nine Tests). None of them has a five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Australia, on the other hand, have Josh Hazlewood. The right-arm seamer has 118 wickets in 30 Tests. The visiting side also have Pat Cummins and Jackson Bird, who can bowl at good pace

Australia seamers are well and truly ahead of Bangladesh. But Taskin believes this time the Tiger pacers will be able to deliver which they didn’t in the past.

“We are bit behind them comparatively. But we are in a better position than before. We have worked with swing and reverse in last month and a half. I hope we will be able to deliver which we couldn’t in the past,” said Taskin at the press conference on Monday.

The 22-year-old feels lucky to be in the squad against powerhouse Aussies.

Bangladesh team now have a lot of brilliant pacers. There is a lot of competition among ourselves. It’s a different type of happiness of getting a place in the Test squad. I am feeling lucky to be in the squad against a side like Australia.”
