The name of Rishabh Pant will be greater in Indian cricket: Ian Smith
New Zealand cricket commentator and former cricketer Ian Smith thinks that Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will be a big player in Indian cricket as he has a bright future ahead of him.
22-year-old Pant was picked in Team India as a replacement for the veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni, who’s at the end of his career. That’s why India have given Pant a chance after chance despite his poor performance in national team’s jersey.
India’s fresh blood wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was on the receiving end of trolls and abuses after he failed to up his ante with the bat and failed to impress as a wicketkeeper as he was sloppy behind the wickets.
His wicket-keeping skills is something he needs to improve a lot. He came under fire for his poor wicket-keeping skills during India’s recent outings.
However, Ian Smith didn’t want to lose hope early.
“We are going to see a lot of Pant. It’s not about simply playing the game yet living it. Perhaps, he needs to gain proficiency with a couple of things and they [team management] are showing him the temperances of persistence. The name of Rishabh Pant will be greater in Indian cricket. Mark my words,”
Pant has not been given chance to play a single match for Team India on the ongoing tour of New Zealand. Not only he lost his playing XI spot to KL Rahul in both the T20I and ODI series, he was not even considered in the dead rubbers as well.
He’s included in the playing XI in Tests but his performance has been poor again against the strong New Zealand side.
