The way we won was beyond expectation: Mashrafe bin Mortaza

It is remarkable how strongly Bangladesh came back in form breaking the losing streak against Sri Lanka since the beginning of the New Year. The post Hathurusingha era in Bangladesh cricket stumbled down against the team which had been taken by the ex-head coach of the country, seemingly as a quite irony of fate.

A fountain of fresh air blew from Colombo on Sunday just as the roaring of the Tigers was heard across the Indian ocean. Bangladesh capitulated the highest successful run chase in T20I cricket for any subcontinent team, overwhelmed the island nation with a 5 wicket win eclipsing 214 runs.

On the note, Bangladesh limited over captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza depicted the phenomenon as something beyond expectation.

He said, “A win like this was badly needed for us. This became essential to stop the heaving criticisms around the team. We expected to perform well but it seemed crossed the barometer of expectation the way we won.”

Telling the story how he became hopeful of the win before the half way through the innings, Mashrafe said, “We scored almost 80 runs in first six overs. A win becomes probable when this much run can be scored within six overs. We have had quality batsmen later on in the innings.”

The 35 ball unbeaten 74 runs by wicket keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is regarded as the best T20 innings played by any Bangladeshi batsman, said Mashrafe bin Mortaza.

The country’s limited over captain also poured appreciations for Litton Das and Tamim Iqbal – together they formed the rock base for rest of the batsmen.

“Tamim batted so maturely which paved the way for Litton to quicken the score,” he said.

Eyeing the final of the Nidahas Trophy, Mashrafe believes the remarkable win brought the confidence back for the team.

“Whichever situation would come in next matches, I think they will be prepared. The win was a great signal for everyone,” Mashrafe said.

Knowing that Bangladesh fans can rush with limitless expectations, Mashrafe also said, “Expectation is such a thing, someone can expect the team to win in the eleventh match even after losing ten matches relentlessly. It is over and above controlling. But the good sign is that cricketers are calm. The found the way they searched till to date. If they are in ok, everything will be in good shape.”
