The wickets are trash: Stokes on Chennai’s pitch in IPL 2021

Several cricketers like Parthiv Patel, Brett Lee, Ben Stokes have mentioned Chennai’s pitch as shocking, trash after another low scoring match in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

On Friday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by huge 9 wickets on a sluggish track in Chennai. But PBKS had to play 17.4 overs to chase down MI’s 132-run target. Patel, Lee, Stokes all praised KL Rahul and Chris Gayle much as they were every sensible and organized in their batting.

“This was not an easy wicket to bat on, you’ve got to give credit to Gayle and KL Rahul, they were very sensible, full marks to PBKs,” Parthiv said on Star Sports after the match.

“It’s a shocking cricket wicket, to be honest, it’s hard for the batsmen to get into any sort of rhythm,” Lee said.

While Stokes attacked more and tweeted: “Hope the wickets don’t get worse as the@IPL gets deeper into the tournament..160/170 minimum not scraping to 130/140 cause the wickets are trash.”

PBKS registered second win in this year’s IPL last night while MI lost their third match of this season. Both PBKS and MI got 4 points till now in 5 matches.
