There is no place for Ashraful: Chief Selector

However, Bangladesh currently has a good set of players who have been playing for the team for a while. So it will not be easy for the 34-year old cricketer to make a national after such a long time.

The chief selector Bangladesh national cricket team Minhajul Abedin Nannu also thinks the same way as he says there is no place for the player in current Bangladesh team. “At the moment there is no place for him in the national team,” chief selector Minhajul Abedin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Nannu has made one thing very clear that Ashraful is not getting national team call so early as the selector pointed out some conditions for the player in order to be considered for the national team selection.

“We maintain high standards [of] fitness for the national team, along with high performance and Bangladesh A team. To attain that level of fitness he needs to be given some time and only if he achieves it, we can think about him. But, as off now, we are not thinking about him anywhere,” he added.

Ashraful’s ban from domestic cricket was lifted two years ago and during these two years, he has always been in the spotlight as he scored five centuries in this time. Minhajul, however, believes the hard-hitter batsman will need to perform exceptionally well to get his old spot back.

“There are several instances [where] we have seen players making a comeback after such suspension but he needs to perform exceptionally [well] because there are players who grabbed his place in the national team, Let him play in all the formats and let us see where he lands up eventually, but it will be very tough for him to make a comeback,”  he noted.
