Three Australians among Wisden’s top five cricketers of the year
India national cricket team captain Virat Kohli was selected as the leading cricketer in the last three editions of the bible, Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. But he did not even make it to the list of top five cricketers in the 2020 edition.
England’s pace bowling all-rounder Ben Stokes has been selected as the leading cricketer in this year’s Wisden edition. As a result, the wait of 15 years has been diminished. Former England fast bowler all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been selected as Wisden’s top cricketer for the last time in 2005 for England. This time, it has been won by another pace bowling all-rounder after a decade and a half.
England’s Jofra Archer, South Africa’s Simon Harmer, Australia’s Pat Cummins, Marnus Labschagne and women’s team all-rounder Ellys Perry are among the top five players in this year’s Wisden edition. That means the list is bested with England and Australia players.
Stokes has been selected as the leading cricketer in men’s cricket, as well as Australia’s Ellis Perry in women’s cricket. She was also selected as the top female cricketer in 2016. Andre Russell has been selected as the top T20 cricketer of the year.
