The team had a poor season last year as they failed to qualify for the playoffs, for the first time in their history. The franchise needs a big fish in the hut, considering the future. So they will be also on a hunt to grab a big player and Steve Smith is a frontier in that list.
Let’s check at the three reasons which may convince Chennai Super Kings and the fans to grab Steve Smith:
1. A traditional Aussie player in the setup
In the history pages of Chennai Super Kings, there is always a page for Australian players. There is a cliche between Aussie players and the franchise. Matthew Hayden, Mike Hussey, Shane Watson, Doug Bollinger are some big names who had a successful career with the franchise.
Now also, the franchise has only a vacant for the foreign player, and that too created by former Australian right-handed batsman Shane Watson. Obviously, there are high chances of looking at the Australian players by the franchise.
In the list of available players, Aussie players like Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, and Glenn Maxwell are seen to be dominating. Among the three Aussie players, Steve Smith will be a good tick as the franchise needs a solid top-order versatile batsman in the place of Shane Watson.
