Tigers eye first series win over SL

The second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is set to begin on Thursday at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. The two-match series is currently level at 0-0.

Tigers eye first series win over SL

Bangladesh earned a draw in the previous match in Chittagong. Mominul Haque was the star with twin centuries, the first Bangladeshi to do so. But bowling was below par even on a placid track.

Bangladesh have an opportunity to win their first bilateral series over Sri Lanka if they win Dhaka Test. They drew 1-1 with them in Sri Lanka last year. Bangladesh’s last Test series was against Zimbabwe in November 2014, which was their third Test series win.

It’s not only about winning the series, the Tigers can go on to jump number eight from number nine in the ICC Test rankings for the first time. Currently they are at no.9 with points level with West Indies, 72. But if Bangladesh lose, they will stay at number one. They have to at least achieve a draw in this match.

Bangladesh have lost only one match in last five matches at SBNCS. Wins over England and Australia are notable ones. Unlike Chittagong, the Mirpur pitch is expected to assist spinners as usual.

The hosts are likely to make two changes in the playing XI. Sabbir Rahman and Abdur Razzak may replace Mosaddek Hossain and Sunzamul Islam. Sabbir was called back into the squad after Chittagong Test. Razzak is set for a comeback after four years.

Sri Lanka could bring Dushmantha Chameera in for Lahiru Kumara.
