Titans wins a thriller
Even a monumental effort by Mominul Haque could not save Rajshahi Kings from a nail biting defeat against newly included franchise Khulna Titans. In the just completed match at the Sher – E – Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Khulna Titans has narrowly picked up a 3 run win over Rajshahi Kings.
The second day of fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) contains two matches. In the first encounter Khulna Titans has a clash with Rajshahi Kings and in the second occasion, Rangpur Riders will take on Chittagong Vikings. The outcome of the first match went in favor of Khulna Titans as Rajshahi failed to reach the victory target of 133 runs given by Khulna Titans.
Rajshahi Kings innings, although made faltering start after losing opener Nurul Hasan at the score of 18, they had two solid hard hitters in the crease – Sabbir Rahman and Umar Akmal. Unfortunately both of them failed to click on; Titans’ Pakistani pace recruit Junaid Khan did the damage for the team, picked up both Sabbir and Akmal at the score of 24.
Mominul Haque put up the brave fight along with Caribbean all rounder Darren Sammy. Mominul 64 runs playing 57 balls with 6 shots to the boundary while Sammy hit 3 exquisite shots of sixes all the way to the gallery before being bowled by Shaiful Islam after scoring 31 runs (23 balls).
Rajshahi tried hard to touch the coveted victory mark; but credit goes to the bowlers of the Titans who managed to restrain them from doing so; Kings’ batsmen needed 4 runs from last 3 balls but eventually failed to pluck those, accepted a defeat of 3 runs at the end.
In the first half of the match, Khulna Titans captain Mahmudullah Riyad won the toss and decided to bat first but could not capitalize the decision in batting failure. Skipper Mahmudullah and Titans’ Australian recruit Matheus Hendrik Wessels were the highest run getter for the team – both scored 32 respectively; Wessels did it in 22 deliveries while Mahmudullah played 21 balls.
Four of the Khulna Titans batsmen failed to reach two figure mark. West Indian batsman Nicolas Pooran and late middle order batsman Ariful Haque both added 14 runs in the team score. The new franchise eventually bundled out for 133 runs in their 20 overs.
Abul Hasan Raju claimed 5 wickets out of 8 Khulna Titans lost in their innings. The right arm fast medium bowler ripped through the Khulna Titans’ innings picking up all their front line batsmen including Mahmudullah, Wessels, Kapali and Ariful.
