Towhid, Shamim star in Bangladesh U-19’s convincing win
Hosts Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team beat Sri Lanka Under-19 Cricket Team by 5 wickets in the second match of five-match ODI series on Monday. With the win, Bangladesh Under-19 lead the series by 1-0. Earlier, the first ODI was abandoned due to rain.
Rain also interrupted on Monday in the second ODI. That’s why 50-overs reduced to 31 overs per side. Batting first, Sri Lanka Under-19 managed to post a big total of 209 runs losing 7 wickets at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.
Opener Navod Paranavithana was the highest run-scorer for them with 78 runs off just 75 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. Except him, Sonal Dinusha scored 41 runs, Ravindu Rasantha scored 33 runs and Chamindu Wijesinghe scored 30 runs.
Shamim Hossain and Rakibul Hasan both took two wickets each for Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team.
Chasing the target of 210 runs, Bangladesh was in danger at the start of their batting. The hosts lost 4 wickets for 42 runs and were in serious trouble.
However, Shamim Hossain and Towhid Hridoy rescued the team from risk. Bangladesh reached the place of victory only after playing 25.4 overs.
Shamim missed his century for just five runs. He scored 95 runs off just 61 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes. However, Towhid left the field with a gift of victory for the team, who scored an unbeaten 82-run knock off just 56 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Amshi de Silva took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka Under-19 Cricket team.
Shamim Hossain was adjusted man of the match for his outstanding all-round performance (95 runs off 61 balls in batting and two wickets in bowling).
The remaining three ODIs will be held at Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on November 14, 17 and 19.
