Tripathi’s 93 helps Pune to defeat Kolkata by 4 wickets
Rising Pune Supergiant notched up their second win on the trot after beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. Rahul Tripathi’s 93 runs off 52 balls ensured that his team crossed the finishing line. This was his 8th consecutive 30+ score. His innings included 9 fours and 7 sixes.
In their pursuit of 156 runs, Pune opener began their innings with caution but KKR pacer Umesh Yadav drew the first blood in the second over after sending Ajinkya Rahane to the pavilion for 11 runs. But Tripathi was scoring at will which led his Pune team reach 60 runs in the first 5 overs. He scored his half century in only 23 balls including 8 boundaries and 3 sixes.
He made the target look small as he hammered Kuldeep Yadav for 3 back-to-back sixes in the 13th over. With this half-century, he scored the fastest fifty for RPS surpassing Rahane’s fifty off 27 balls.
Smith and Tripathi were knitting a good partnership but a poor shot selection halted it at 48 runs between them. Manoj Tiwary also couldn’t last at the crease as he was bowled by Chris Woakes in the 9th over. He could only score 8 runs.

Earlier, late exploits from Suryakumar Yadav and Colin de Grandhomme helped Kolkata post 155/8 against Pune. Invited to bat first after losing the toss, Kolkata top order failed to but vital performances from Manish Pandey (37), Yadav (30* off 19) and de Grandhomme (36 off 16) helped the hosts post a respectable total against Pune.
