Twitter was flooded with photos of Dhoni’s dive after the match comparing the moment to the 2019 WC semi-final.

Coming in at no. 7, Dhoni yesterday pushed a delivery to the cover in 14th over of the match and set for a single. But standing at non-striker’s end, Ravindra Jadeja denied the single and sent Dhoni back. Immediately Dhoni returned and felt that only dive could save his wicket. Then he dived which saved him from being run-out.

After seeing that moment, many lauded Dhoni for his fitness but Twitter went in other way. They brought back the memories of 2019 WC semi-final when India needed 25 runs off 10 balls with well-set Dhoni batting in the middle. New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson was bowling at that moment and Dhoni played a shot towards deep-square leg and went for two runs to take the strike again. But fielding at deep-square leg, Martin Guptill picked up the ball so fast and rattled the stump with a perfectly aimed throw which saw Dhoni run-out and India lost the match by 18 runs.

Notably, it was Dhoni’s last match in Indian jersey also as he retired from international cricket in the very next year of World Cup on August 15, 2020.

However, Dhoni’s CSK won yesterday’s match comfortably by 45 runs against RR. Dhoni played an average innings of 18-run off 17 balls.
