Gayle, who was expected to call it quits from international cricket after the conclusion of the ICC World Cup 2019, expressed his desire to play for the team one last time in the ongoing series against India.

After a scintillating 72-run-knock in the final third ODI of the three-match series, Gayle made his way back to the dug-out.

While he was on his way, he was congratulated by the Indian players as they bid a fitting farewell to one of the greatest ever cricketers to have graced the sport for West Indies.

Gayle, who recently became the all-time leading run-scorer for West Indies in ODI, surpassing the legendary Brian Lara, was playing his 301st ODI Wednesday in what could be his one last appearance for Windies in the fifty-over format.

The explosive left-hander lit up the batting with Evin Lewis in the third ODI and got his team off to a good start in the game. He then combined with Lewis to post a 115-run stand for the opening wicket.

He scored his 54th ODI fifty and went on to smash 72 runs off 41 balls with the help of eight fours and five sixes and was looking in splendid touch before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed.
