Twitter reacts to ‘dumbest run out of the year’
The cricket world became witness to probably one of the most bizarre run outs ever in the history of cricket when Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali found himself on the way to pavilion after getting out in the most comical fashion possible.
The incident took place on Day 3 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and Australia. It was during the 52nd over of Pakistan innings, bowled by Peter Siddle. Ali, who was batting on 64, edged a delivery past gully on the drive, and the ball ran towards the rope. The Pakistan batsmen assumed that it was going for a four, and he decided to get involved in a discussion with his partner Asad Shafiq in the middle of the pitch.
But in reality, the ball stopped just short and was picked up by Mitchell Starc. The left-arm seamer quickly threw the ball towards wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who took down the stumps to dismiss Ali. On the other hand, both Pakistani batsmen were left stunned and Ali with no option left had to head back to pavilion. Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur shook his head in disbelief.

At the moment, twitter users are going nuts over the way Ali became victim of such an astonishing, as well as one of the dumbest run outs ever. It seems like almost everyone has something to say about the wicket, if not make fun of it. Let’s take a look at what the netizens have to say.
INCREDIBLE! The two batsmen are chatting in the middle of the pitch, without realising that the ball hadn't reached the boundary 😲

Oh dear. Pakistan's batsmen assume the ball has gone to the boundary at third man, Starc fires back a return after it stops a few inches from the rope, and Paine whips off the bails with Azhar Ali conversing with Asad Shafiq in mid-pitch. Bizarre #PakvAus

Unbelievable run out in Abu Dhabi. Pakistan batsmen think ball had gone for four. It hadn't and Azhar Ali is run out while chatting to his partner in the middle of the pitch!

This December, please remember to make Azhar Ali's runout as the best cricket thing this year.

Full props to Azhar Ali for providing such comic zest to this otherwise dull affair in Abu Dhabi. 😝 #PAKvAUS
