Fans not happy with Shastri reappointment as head coach of the Indian team.

The camaraderie between him and the teammates has also been fantastic since his arrival. However, with no major trophies to boast his resume, Ravi Shastri will be looking forward to weaving magic in the next two years so as to aim for the next World Cup title.

Shastri’s contract came to a close following India’s World Cup campaign but India’s governing body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) handed Shastri and his support staff 45-member extension.

In the end, Ravi Shastri pipped former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson, Australian Tom Moody and former India teammates- Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput respectively to clinch the post.

After Ravi Shastri was retained as India head coach, fans were not pleased and they thought that Virat Kohli’s preference influenced the final call. However, Kapil Dev made it very clear that Virat Kohli didn’t play a part in Shastri’s reappointment.

“Not at all, because if we take his (Kohli’s) views we would have taken the entire team’s views too. We haven’t asked anyone. There was no scope for that,” said Kapil when asked if Kohli’s views and preference influenced the final decision.

When asked about the team’s semifinal exits in ICC events, Kapil said, “If any manager doesn’t win (a World Cup) with any team, they should be sacked? No, you look at the overall picture and we are not looking at that, we are looking at what presentation he has given, we have gone by that.”

“All of them were excellent. Sometimes I felt Shastri had more skills of communication, they may have felt differently but we didn’t discuss that, we have given the marks after listening to their presentations,” Kapil Dev explained why Ravi Shastri was cut above the rest of the candidates.

Soon after Ravi Shastri was retained as the chief coach of the Indian cricket team, fans took to Twitter to vent out their frustration.
